m. anthrax, virus caused by the agent cutaneous anthrax. The Bacillus anthracis develops in infected animals through the skin. Humans suffering from anthrax experience symptoms of hemorrhage and serous effusions in several organ cavities and lethargy; it is not transmissible by contact, but if transmitted by air can cause fatal pneumonia.
