1   Persona que ha obtenido el título universitario de licenciatura: es licenciada en filología catalana y ahora está estudiando el doctorado.

2   Persona que ha cumplido el servicio militar y ha obtenido la licencia absoluta: los licenciados pasan a la reserva y no vuelven a filas a menos que haya guerra.

When students finish University after an average of five years they receive the degree of licenciado. If the course is only three years such as Nursing, or if they choose not to do the optional two-year specialization, they are awarded the degree of diplomado. Cursos de posgrado, postgraduate courses, are becoming increasingly popular, especially one-year specialist courses called masters.
